Researchers at a Houston medical facility have developed an artificial intelligence (AI) system that reliably interprets mammograms. This technology has the potential to assist doctors with a quick and accurate prediction of breast cancer risk. DATAVERSITY brought this interesting news to our attention in their article, “Artificial Intelligence Expedites Breast Cancer Risk Prediction.”

The software intuitively translates patient charts into diagnostic information at 30 times human speed and with 99 percent accuracy. The research team are hoping this AI will help physicians better define the percent risk requiring a biopsy, equipping doctors with a tool to decrease unnecessary breast biopsies.

AI programs are being developed more and more. IBM’s Watson was a good example of their evolution and caused a greater demand for the technology that touches the consumer in a more personal way.
