Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy s a genetically determined heart muscle disease most often caused by mutations in one of several sarcomere genes which encode components of the contractile apparatus of the heart. More than five million people are living with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy in the United Sates and about half of the affected population succumb within five years of diagnosis. However, there has been a significant reduction in deaths as a result of this disease due to improved therapies to treat the disease.
