The Library of Congress is launching a crowdsourcing program beginning today. They are inviting everyone to join in as they improve discovery and access across their diverse collections through transcription and tagging. This interesting news came to us from their blog post, “New strategy! New crowd! New team!”
The program is grounded in their previous experiences with participatory projects at the Library, including image description in Flickr and our newspaper captioning pilot Beyond Words.
This adventure connects with the recently published Library of Congress FY2019-2023 Strategic Plan and accompanying digital strategy, which emphasizes a user-centered, data-driven, and digitally enabled foundation to connect with all Americans.
The Library of Congress is honoring their promise to the public to develop in the open from the start of the project. Over the coming weeks, they will have a more focused view of the agile software development process and the newly developed tools.
