Data is the key ingredient for artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning. These technologies continue to mature and they are generating vast amounts of data. This leaves us with a new challenge – storage. Computer Business Review brought this news to our attention in their article, “AI and Machine Learning – What are the Most Important Data Storage Requirements?”
Organizations need to balance storage performance, ease of management and cost to support AI and machine learning applications. Designing a storage strategy should include object storage. Creating and gathering AI-scale data sets can take years. Backing up enormous sets in one go can be costly and time-consuming. Instead, some object storage solutions come with self-protecting capabilities that mean a separate backup process isn’t necessary.
It does little good to store data sets if you can’t find the data you need with ease and in a timely manner. Searchability, powered by metadata, is what makes large volumes of data useful.
