The Special Libraries Association (SLA) Taxonomy Division’s Professional Development Series is offering a February webinar featuring a familiar taxonomist – their own Heather Hedden – senior vocabulary editor at Gale, a Cengage Company, presenting on Licensing Controlled Vocabularies.
A custom-created controlled vocabulary/taxonomy is best, but there are situations in which licensing a controlled vocabulary published by a third party may be considered. This webinar presents the situations in which to consider licensing a controlled vocabulary, the issues in licensing a controlled vocabulary, and the sources for licensing a vocabulary. What to consider if you have created a controlled vocabulary that you want to license out will also be discussed.
In addition, preliminary results from a taxonomy licensing interest survey will be shared. Both those new and experienced with taxonomies will gain insights from this webinar.
