Both the internet and artificial intelligence (AI) are impacting our lives in expected and unexpected ways. Many are worried about how distracted with technology we have become or about whether robots will take our jobs. Those are valid concerns. But the impact of computing technology could bring even more impact than we could imagine. This interesting topic came to us from WCAI public radio out of Massachusetts, in their article, “Grappling with the Roles of Human and Artificial Intelligence in a Complex World.”
Professionals advise that it shouldn’t be an “us vs. them” thing. Humans and data should go together. In many cases, the relationships that technologies like machine learning infers are so complex that we cannot understand how they work. That leads to the fear. But sometimes the associations that machine learning algorithms reveal, lead also to a deeper understanding of a disease or other complex system.
