Open source is almost everywhere these days. It refers to the open source model, in which software or other products are released under an open source license as part of the open source software movement. Some professionals are excited about the resources and opportunities acquisitions can bring to the open source movement, while others worry that tech giants may change what they initially loved about open source. IBM recently announced its acquisition of Red Hat and Microsoft announced its agreement to acquire GitHub. It seems the world’s largest companies are either releasing or acquiring their own open-source software. Open source maintainers are just disappearing or burning out.
