The Internet of Things (IoT) continues to grow and become a part of our business and personal lives. For organizations it has become even more important to develop an edge computing strategy and model that brings analytics and data storage closer to the locations where they are needed. Digital Insurance brought this interesting news to our attention in their article, “Growth in IoT fueling demand for edge computing technologies.”

Edge computing is the practice of processing data near the edge of your network, where the data is being generated, instead of in a centralized data-processing warehouse. The global edge computing market has recently been valued at $1.47 billion in 2018 and is expected to expand at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 54 percent from 2019 to 2025.

An edge application can make effective use of IoT devices’ processing power to aggregate and filter the IoT data. It also offers the flexibility and power of the cloud to execute complex analyses of the data.
