Digital transformation affects all industries, even the defense industry. Along with progress comes security risks. There are those posed by emerging technologies and it is important to highlight how both defense departments and contractors can secure their operations against them. This interesting topic came to us from Army Technology in their article, “Mitigating security risks from emerging technologies.”
When introducing new technologies, it is important to think about cybersecurity. The first consideration must be access, specifically what can these new technological advances access? Organizations should carefully evaluate the risk that new applications may have to their network before beginning to implement them, as not doing so could open up a range of new avenues of attack.
Even when the threat has been assessed, they must ensure they search for every possible threat. The Internet of Things (IoT) devices are particularly relevant in this regard, as these small devices are easily overlooked, but often provide an easy route into a network.
