Big data analytics is the process of collecting and analyzing the large volume of data sets to discover useful hidden patterns and other information. Big data is a term that is described by the extreme volume of data, the wide variety of data types, and the velocity at which the data must be processed. CIM Magazine brought this topic to us in their article, “MeMO 2019: People power and machine learning.”

Big data can be analyzed for insights that lead to better decisions and strategic business moves. Big data analytics is all about extracting and transforming data to extract information, which then can be fed to a machine learning system in order to do further analytics for predicting output results.

Industry leaders at the Maintenance, Engineering and Reliability/Mine Operators Conference (MEMO) 2019 recently advocated for the benefits of total systemic, company-wide changes to improve mining operations. They reminded their audience of the importance of people, and not to neglect systems. They should embrace the concepts of big data, analytics, and machine learning- as well as the people who run and operate those systems.
