The rapid spread of COVID-19 around the world has brought advanced big data analytics tools front and center. Health IT Analytics brought this topic to our attention in their article, “Understanding the COVID-19 Pandemic as a Big Data Analytics Issue.”
Researchers, government health agencies and software developers are increasingly using artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning, natural language processing and other emerging technologies to map, track and contain the coronavirus. Along the way, they hope to gain more knowledge and understanding of the disease for future population health management.
Researchers are using big data and analytics to better comprehend coronavirus from a number of different angles – data modeling, social media responses and monitoring the availability of hospital resources. There is an enormous amount of information out there waiting to be captured, analyzed and disseminated.
Researchers are also leveraging AI to evaluate the effects of COVID-19 interventions on individuals across the country, including caregivers.
