In the pursuit of effective treatments for COVID-19, many technologies are being explored, including machine learning algorithms. This interesting news came to us from Health IT Analytics in their article, “Data Scientists Use Machine Learning to Discover COVID-19 Treatments.”

Algorithms are a big part of machine learning. Two data scientists of the Data Science Institute at Columbia University have launched a startup that creates algorithms capable of computationally generating, screening and optimizing hundreds of millions of therapeutic antibodies.

Machine learning algorithms are programs that adjust themselves to perform better as they are exposed to more data.

The scientists are using this technology to discover treatments that will most likely help individuals infected by the virus that causes COVID-19. The machine learning algorithms are able to rapidly screen for therapeutic antibodies with a high probability of success.

With these machine learning algorithms, they expect to accelerate the speed at which coronavirus therapies are discovered, developed and delivered.
