2022 and Emerging Technologies

For the year ahead, PitchBook Data Inc. is predicting some interesting activity in emerging technologies. Silicon Angle brought this interesting news to us in their article, “PitchBook predicts agtech and AI will lead emerging technology funding in 2022.”

They are predicting the agtech sector will experience record merger and acquisition (M&A) activity in 2022. Over the past decade, M&A activity in the sector has been on the rise and a funding shift to fewer larger deals is concentrating capital among key providers, thus priming the industry for increased acquisition activity.

Pitchbook is also predicting that insurance technology activity will see a strong increase in mergers and acquisitions as well. Internet of things (IoT) and operational technology security startups will also be seeing increased activity.

Smart spaces are driving much of this activity. A digital environment in which humans and technology-enabled systems interact in increasingly open, connected, coordinated and intelligent ecosystems.

Most organizations have little visibility and knowledge on how artificial intelligence (AI) systems make the decisions they do, and as a result, how the results are being applied in the various fields. Explainable AI allows users to comprehend and trust the results and output created by machine learning algorithms.
