Cybersecurity has never been more important and artificial intelligence (AI) is in the thick of it. This interesting subject came to us from Analytics India Magazine in their article, “Understanding cybersecurity from machine learning POV.”
Companies depend more on digitization and Internet of Things (IoT) more than ever with security issues like unauthorized access, malware attack, zero-day attack, data breach, social engineering or phishing growing at a significant rate. And it costs.
A data breach costs $8.19 million in the United States and $3.9 million on an average. Meanwhile, the annual cost for the global economy from cybercrime is $400 billion.
Data science has the potential to change the industry with machine learning algorithms that can be used to extract insights of security event patterns from training data for detection and prevention. It can be used to detect malware or suspicious trends and to extract policy rules.
Unfortunately, most organizations have little knowledge on how AI systems make the decisions they do. Explainable AI is used to describe an AI model, its expected impact and potential biases. Why is this important? Because explainability becomes critical when the results can have an impact on data security or safety.
