The National Humanities Center is partnering with faculty from 15 colleges and universities to create and implement curricula for developing responsible artificial intelligence (AI) technologies. Campus Technology brought this topic to our attention in their article, “Google-Supported Effort to Help Develop Courses in Responsible AI.”

Understanding AI is hard because it is not one thing, and the technology has many use cases. The goal of this work is to help students comprehend the myriad ways AI technologies are integrated into modern life and to think through the ethical issues involved in developing and deploying them. 

Responsible AI is the practice of designing, developing and deploying AI with good intentions to empower employees and businesses, and fairly impact customers and society. Responsible AI could be the next big thing, allowing companies to engender trust and scale AI with confidence.

With greater power also comes greater responsibility. The large-scale cultural and societal implications associated with AI and emerging technologies, as well as the ethical questions they raise, pose serious challenges as well as opportunities.
