Today more than half of the world’s population lives in the urban areas, and this number should rise to two thirds by 2050. Municipalities can no longer afford to ignore digital technologies in order to enhance the well-being and engagement of citizens. The transition from city to smart city lies in the intelligent use of public data and machine learning to enhance public services. The data gathered and analyzed through technological advancements such as artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning and IoT can improve the population as a whole.
