The public cloud is growing rapidly and the market for the technology is expected to reach $1.3 trillion by 2025. The cloud has revolutionized the computing industry and enabled many applications, business models and enterprises, which otherwise wouldn’t have been possible. But it comes at a cost. InfoWorld brought this interesting topic to our attention in their article, “Complex cloud architecture is finally causing budgetary pain.”
According to a recent report, 49% of survey respondents find it difficult to get cloud costs under control and 54% believe their primary source of cloud waste is a lack of visibility and observability into basic cloud usage. Are you surprised?
Unfortunately, there is no magical solution for this $1 trillion problem. Some of these could be addressed with cloud repatriation and edge computing, to a certain degree and for a limited number of services. Start with understanding the deficiency and create a plan to resolve the holistic problem. Try to consolidate many of the native services to cross-cloud services that serve the entirety of the multi-cloud and even traditional legacy platforms instead of serving a single cloud provider’s platform.
