Classifying documents and information against the taxonomy increases the likelihood of document discoverability and creating a positive transaction. A taxonomy is a structured kind of controlled vocabulary. A controlled vocabulary is needed to ensure that machine-assisted or fully automated indexing is comprehensive, regardless of what is to be indexed.
A taxonomy may have two main features (naming and structure), but a taxonomy and a classification system are not necessarily the same.
