Since 2017, the Society for Scholarly Publishing (SSP) has offered its Mentorship Program to strengthen professional growth across the scholarly communications community. This six-month program pairs mentors and mentees to share knowledge, expand networks and learn together.

The next cohort runs from October 2025 to March 2026, with applications due by September 22, 2025. Participants will be notified in early October.

Mentors must have at least three years of experience in scholarly communication, while mentees can be students or professionals at any stage. SSP membership is required for all participants. Meetings take place at least once a month, virtually or in person with support provided through orientation sessions, a handbook and discussion groups.

The program is not a one-way exchange. Mentors gain fresh perspectives, while mentees build confidence and expand their career horizons. Both benefit from the opportunity to connect with colleagues across roles and organizations.

SSP emphasizes diversity, equity, inclusion and accessibility. Individuals from underrepresented groups are encouraged to apply, reinforcing the program’s goal of building a vibrant and welcoming professional community.
