Bias in applications often stems from the data used to train algorithms. If past hiring data favors one demographic over another, machine learning models can inherit and reinforce those biases. Similarly, facial recognition systems trained on unbalanced datasets may perform poorly on certain racial or ethnic groups, leading to misidentifications. Even recommendation engines in online platforms can unintentionally promote biased content based on user engagement patterns.
