Research Advances in Digital World
Emory sociologist Roberto Franzosi has collected more than 1,200 newspaper clips about lynchings in Georgia from 1875 to 1930. He is applying a research methodology and software program he developed to catalog and analyze the narrative data. Franzosi’s Georgia Lynching Project is one of the first four projects of the new Digital Scholarship Commons (DiSC), which helps faculty and graduate students harness digital tools and resources.
New Product Uses Semantic Layers
Birst Inc. has released Birst Visualization Edition, a quick deploy version of its enterprise product. In this new edition, a semantic layer is featured and eliminates the need to write SQL queries or perform data extractions. A semantic layer is in the appliance links tables and generates queries “under the covers” for non-SQL experts.

The Department of Health and Human Services closed the comment period on the proposed rule to delay ICD-10 May 17. Now they are reviewing those comments and deciding how to proceed. Providers are waiting and feeling the uncertainty about when ICD-10 will happen and whether they should continue moving forward with their preparations.
