Social Metrics

Altmetrics is the creation and study of new metrics based on the social web for analyzing and informing scholarship. This interesting topic was inspired by a recent post on David Warlock’s blog titled, “The Science of Measurement.” As he pondered the importance of measuring in science and data, the topic of  altmetrics naturally evolved.

Many are now using the social media to connect with their customers and bring awareness to their products. Analytics and metrics around that social data are proving to be invaluable.  This science of measurement and evaluation is evolving as others begin to see ways of commercializing it.
