Find a way to link all the data islands under application silos. Therefore you need to have access to metadata and create graphs of relationships. One company, Radiant Logic, offers a set of tools to pull data and virtualize. At a high level, it’s liberating the information and making it available for the business users.

XBRL US, the national consortium for XML business reporting standards, has created a 16-member Best Practice Committee as part of XBRL US' focus on data quality. The committee is charged with identifying and reaching agreement on best practices in the creation of XBRL-formatted financial statements from public companies reporting to the Securities and Exchange Commission.
