August 10, 2010 – Exclusive eBook deals bypassing the publisher may become the rule. This may result in some books you want simply not being available for the hardware you have.

Wired.com’s recent article, “Why Metadata Matters for the Future of E-Books”, addresses the recent news about Andrew Wylie making good on his threat to bypass publishers by inking a deal giving the exclusive e-book rights to his agency’s backlist to Amazon, through his imprint called Odyssey Editions. This means that books that might have been unavailable in any electronic format are now available digitally, but only for the Kindle.

The author addresses the new significance metadata has in this new era of eReaders and eBooks. The article is worth the read and makes us all interested in what will unfold in this arena.
