August 24, 2010 – Index Engines was recently awarded patents in the United States and also Europe.
According to Digital Producer’s article, “Index Engines Data Discovery Platform is Awarded United States and European Patents”, the patient issue was for a unique approach for processing data, and also for making that data searchable and discoverable across primary and secondary storage. Touted as being built from the ground up, they addressed challenges such as volume, access, and efficiency. Existing data on hard drives, networks, and even back-up tapes will be able to be indexed, de-duplicated, searched, managed and extracted through just one interface.
Will it be worth the cost? Or should one stick with a proven performer? Automatic indexing can be advanced and tempting, but without a solid taxonomy to rely on, the results could be incomplete. Access Innovations is one of a very small number of companies able to help its clients generate ISO/ANSI/NISO compliant taxonomies to produce comprehensive search results.
