August 11, 2010 – BitTorrent has released Torrent Tweet , an app that you can add to torrent client uTorrent in order to organize the discussions surrounding individual torrents on Twitter.
Tech Crunch brought this news to our attention in their article, “Twitter Now Even More Torrent-Friendly”. Torrent Tweet adapts the referencing system built into BitTorrent so tweets are published with an automatically generated hash tag unique to each torrent file.
Tapping into the power of the social networking tool that Twitter already is, Torrent seems to be ignoring the potential legal complications that could slow down their goal of centralizing discussions. This launch reinforces the fact that Twitter has now become a powerful locus for file sharing.
