April 5, 2011 – RiverGlass has launched Release 3.0 of its Semantic Text Analyzer (STAn), promising improvements in natural language processing.
Image and Data Manager brought this interesting topic to our attention in their article, “Semantic solution to search relevancy.” The company claims that search solutions based on traditional statistical natural language processing (NLP) approaches have fundamental limitations in the ability to understand the meaning of what is being said or written. This is where ontology-based semantics can come in and bring what RiverGlass claims is the the first true semantic, meaning-based approach to analytics.
STAn 3.0 is the result of R&D efforts spanning several years. Time well spent? It is certainly nice to see semantic technology progressing.
