When asked about the potential of triple stores replacing relational databases, one author provides his perspective in twofold.
Information Management brought this news to our attention in their article, “Will Triple Stores Replace Relational Databases?” To clear things up, his answer was yes, and no.
He believes that relational databases may continue to perform a bit better on simple joins, but triple stores are much more flexible and are already producing better performance when it comes to complicated queries, rule handling and inferencing.
Of course, he also believes that triple stores will continue to be used in conjunction with relational databases in the near future, due to the large financial investment it took to implement.
Ironically, he used the analogy of buying a new car just like the one you have or the newest vehicle on the market. I don’t know if that was the best metaphor.
