Researchers in Spain are promising a better mobile telephone user experience by applying semantic technology to customize an application related to user tastes and preferences, social relations, services and environment.
Science Daily brought this to our attention in their article, “New Semantic Model Improves Mobile Telephone User Experience.” Researchers at the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid’s Facultad de Informática have developed the mIO! ontology network. The ontology network includes local information on the user, environment, entertainment, and social information.
An ontology is a semantic model representing the knowledge about a particular domain and provides for communication and information exchange among different systems and agents. Combine this with the knowledge of the user context and they can configure, discover, run and improve different services of potential interest to mobile phone users.
Interesting application of semantic technology; it will be equally interesting to see how it is applied and evolves.

To do a reverse mobile phone lookup you need to use a trusted directory service. While there is no national cell phone directory available in the USA due to various privacy concerns, there are specialized directories used by private detectives, journalists and anyone from suspicious spouses to bounty hunters to help in their business. These companies invest a lot of time and financial resources in compiling mobile phone numbers into huge data sets by using both private and public sources, as well as major cell phone carrier restricted databases.
