A Taxonomy of Food

Can you imagine what a flavor looks like? Can you visualize or describe what an apple tastes like? Data visualists David McCandless and Willow Tyrer have explored 1,000 recipes from BBC Food and Epicurious to visualize flavor patterns. The result is a series of visualization of complimentary flavors or “infoodgraphics.”

We found this very interesting topic on Forbes in their article, “Infographic Visualizes Complementary Food Flavors.” As a “foodie”, this is very exciting to me. It makes me think of how you describe a color to a blind person. Visualizing the flavors into taxonomies merges both my worlds. I will definitely be checking these out.
