The International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) and the European Commission (EC) have agreed on the use of a single repository and common categorization taxonomy to report all aviation accidents and incidents worldwide in order to improve aviation safety.
We found this interesting information on Ghana Business News in their article, “International Civil Aviation Organization, European Commission sign pact to improve global aviation safety.” The European Coordination Centre for Accident and Incident Reporting Systems (ECCAIRS) was developed by the European Commission Joint Research Centre (JRC) for collecting and analyzing aviation safety data as well as the sharing of safety information.
It is nice to see the use of a standardized taxonomy scheme on an international playing field.

“first-ever global system for reporting aviation accidents”–that’s impressive and a relief. I’m a little anxious, retrospectively, about the previous lack of a common standardized vocabulary. It was probably easier to adopt the euro than a common taxonomy!
