Google’s upcoming search makeover has many people worried. Even though semantic technology has been embedded in search for years, Google’s plan to include more of it has some worried.

This interesting topic was found on Marketing Pilgrim in their article, “How to Prepare for Google’s Search Makeover.” Google’s search refresh is built upon a huge database of concepts all mapped together into various relationships known as ontologies. With ontologies, concepts have attributes that describe their characteristics. It’s these concepts and attributes that give meaning to otherwise meaningless text.

Even with the anxiety around the change, many believe it is time to update the current PageRank system that uses a series of metrics to decide which results should be placed higher up in results, including the number and location of keywords, and the number of incoming links.
