The continued increase in and popularity of big data has caused many to ponder whether we create better search techniques, or do we rely on text analysis for integrating unstructured data?  I suppose it is both, but it also isn’t that simple.

Since both search and analysis operate on text data, they have a similar core. But while search looks for patterns, analysis deals with patterns on a higher level. Transformations are applied to the text to discern outcomes. Many assumptions are made during analysis.

BeyeNETWORK brought this matter to our attention in their article, “Enterprise Search or Text Analysis: Approaches for Unstructured Data Integration.” This article goes into more detail about the comparison, and it is worth exploring.
