Depending on your entertainment and news choices, the assumption of what was most talked about in 2013 may differ from this list. HITC Lifestyle brought us this interesting example of metadata in their article, “Beyond selfies and twerking … the words that really mattered in 2013.” Big data, metadata, surveillance, and Obamacare are just a few of the terms that one author considered worthy. Unlike artisanal, using these terms does not automatically increase the price of the product.

Considering that the amount of data continues to grow and grow, managing the quantity is almost as important as accessing the data itself. That can be achieved by creating strong taxonomies. Proper indexing against a strong standards-based taxonomy increases the findability of data.
