World War II veterans’ average age is roughly 91 years old. So it is past time to record their stories to be sure history is not lost. Officials in a Tennessee county are doing just that. This interesting information came to us from WATE out of Knoxville, Tennessee in their story, “Blount County WWII veterans recalling stories for video history project.” There are just a few hundred World War II veterans still alive in Blount County.
“Time is not on our side and our World War II veterans are leaving us at a fast rate. This is an opportunity to catch their stories and honor them,” said Nathan Weinbaum with Blount County Veterans Affairs. The video history project is cataloged by Blount County Records Management.
With any archiving project, it is important to remember the value of a solid taxonomy. How the content is classified impacts the findability of your data. Capturing the data is only part of the project. Professionals should look for an experienced builder of solid standards-based taxonomies to associate content for appropriate machine-assisted indexing.
