The Society of American Archivists (SAA) Word of the Week is a weekly email produced by SAA’s Dictionary Working Group that defines new archives terms as well as updates of entries from the 2005 A Glossary of Archival and Records Terminology.

SAA is seeking feedback on these proposed definitions as well as suggestions for new terms. This work is essential to the development of the new Dictionary of Archives Terminology (coming 2015-16).

SAA was founded in 1936, being North America’s oldest and largest national archival professional association. Their mission is to promote the values and diversity of archives and archivists. If you are interested in becoming a member of SAA, you can learn more and apply here.

Education comes from history, and we wouldn’t have that to share if it weren’t for those who took time to record it and archive it. The facts, photos, stories, and documents that so richly shape our world now are all because some historian took time to preserve knowledge.
