This past week was the annual celebration of International Women’s Day around the world. Many different recognition events and articles lifted up historical and current day women making their mark in this world. But what do the men think of this particular emphasis? The New York magazine brought this interesting information to us in their article, “A Taxonomy of Men on International Women’s Day.”
Feminism can be a scary word to men. They envision riots, boycotts and loss of power. It is difficult for men themselves to identify as a feminist partly due to understanding what it means and the feared social backlash. Why does it have to be so difficult? Like anything remotely related to feminism and equal rights, there is a sad amount of misogyny around the hashtag on social media. Enough that it is easy to start classifying men as they relate to feminism.
