Taxonomy Learning Opportunity

The Special Libraries Association (SLA) is offering a unique webinar to further your taxonomy knowledge. “Managing Mature Taxonomies: What We Are Working on Now” will take a look at current taxonomy maintenance projects and the tools and processes that help.

The webinar is being facilitated by Paula McCoy of ProQuest, Heather Hedden of Cengage Learning and Wendi Pohs of InfoClear Consulting.

Paula will talk about ProQuest’s efforts to consolidate many of its specialized vocabularies. Heather will share work on a current project involving changing policies and approaches to dealing with orphan terms in the Gale subject thesaurus. Based on her experience at various client sites, Wendi will discuss the trends in governance and tooling that she sees emerging to manage mature taxonomies.

The Taxonomy Division addresses ways to organize and structure information so that content is accessible and useful. It offers a practical context for exploring issues and sharing experiences related to planning, creating and maintaining taxonomies, thesauri, authority files, and other controlled vocabularies and information structures.
