Cyber attacks are of concern to every type of organization – even the national government. Reuters (along with many, many others) reported on the growing concern around cyber attacks affecting the recent national elections in their article, “Obama orders review of 2016 election cyber attacks.”
U.S. President Barack Obama has ordered intelligence agencies to review cyber attacks and foreign intervention into the 2016 election and deliver a report before January 20, 2017.
The White House spokesman said the review would be a “deep dive” that would look for a pattern of such behavior over several years during election time, dating as far back as the 2008 presidential election.
Those in the world of data security know how challenging and time-consuming a job of this size would be. To have such a short timeline to pull it off makes the task even greater.
Data security is as important as ever. An organization will be in a better position to respond quickly and successfully with good cyber threat intelligence. Protection, detection and response are the keys to cybersecurity, but they must be informed by intelligence about the threat.
