GS1 US went live in 2017 with its National Data Quality program designed to improve data accuracy for the optimal exchange of supply chain product information. GS 1 is the organization that develops and maintains global standards for business communication. The most well-known of these standards is the barcode. DATAVERSITY brought this interesting information to us in their article, “Data Quality: Taking it From the Supply Chain to the Consumer.”

Data quality is important for any type of business. Quality data is useful data. To be of high quality, data must be consistent and unambiguous.

When data is of excellent quality, it can be easily processed and analyzed, leading to insights that help the organization make better decisions. High-quality data is essential to business intelligence efforts and other types of data analytics, as well as better operational efficiency.

As of now, almost 50 organizations have gone through at least one part of the GS 1 program and only a few have passed all three pillars of the program.
