Is a hot dog a sandwich? Who gets to decide? And why does it matter?

As part of their Professional Development member benefits, the Taxonomy Division of the Special Libraries Assocation hosts webinars on taxonomy and related topics. These webinars and recordings are Free to all Taxonomy Division Members. Non-members register for individual webinars for a fee ($30).

On September 26, 2018 at 12:00-1:00 p.m. (EDT), you can join the next webinar where Bob Kasenchak, taxonomist and Director of Business Development at Access Innovations will talk about taxonomies.

Taxonomic thinking is also design thinking, as classification and category-determining strategies are project-specific design decisions that affect — and are informed by — the rest of the information architecture. Using the #IsAHotDogASandwich meme as a point of departure, he will explore how taxonomic decisions are context-driven — and also how the act of designing a taxonomy can lead to unexpected project/content/design insights as well as ethical considerations.
