The EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) is the most important change in data privacy regulation in 20 years. GDPR compliance is an ongoing priority and metadata management is a crucial aspect. This interesting topic came to us from Silicon Republic in their article, “Why is metadata management so important when it comes to GDPR?”
Complying with GDPR and ensuring the safety of data is a major priority for all organizations. Unfortunately, metadata is an often overlooked element of this process.
The aim of GDPR is to protect all EU citizens from privacy and data breaches in today’s data-driven world. Although the key principles of data privacy still hold true to the previous directive, many changes have been proposed to the regulatory policies.
Part of the expanded rights of data subjects outlined by the GDPR is the right for data subjects to obtain confirmation from the data controller as to whether or not personal data concerning them is being processed, where and for what purpose.
Without a robust metadata management strategy, organisations are likely to make business decisions based on incorrect data.
