The Department of Defense (DoD) is working to build a 21st century military staffed with resident data scientists, engineers and artificial intelligence (AI) professionals. This interesting news came to us from C4ISR Net in their article, “Rise of the machines: The Pentagon’s AI workforce plan.”

Apparently the department’s philosophy is they’re going to need to build an internal capability inside the military. Space Wars not feeling so left field-ish about right now?

The plan is to help build resident expertise by bringing 10 highly talented individuals from the services into the Joint Artificial Intelligence Center (JAIC) and team them with data scientists so when they leave JAIC they can bring knowledge in new areas back to their respective services.

One of the top contentions of many experts in the field is that the United States either already behind or close to falling behind other nations, such as China, in the AI arms race. This is their effort at changing that trajectory.
