Benefits of technology continue to be realized. A new report commissioned by Vodafone UK reveals that digital technology can help alleviate loneliness among those over 50. This interesting information came to us from Open Access Government in their article, “New report reveals digital technology can help alleviate loneliness.”
Technology can play a vital role in alleviating loneliness in older people by keeping them connected to their family and friends for longer. This despite the fact that a significant number of older people are not confident in using technology, including accessing the internet.
Seeing the benefits of the technology will hopefully inspire more educational opportunities for seniors to learn how to use the technology and therefore reap the benefits.
Technology could be used alongside more traditional community services to facilitate social interaction, and the learning itself can reduce loneliness and promote an active lifestyle. This allows older people to remain independent in their homes and communities longer.
