In the last six years, visual search market revenue has increased 29% year-over-year. So what exactly is visual search? Forbes brought us this interesting news in their article, “What’s Visual Search? (And Why Smart Marketers Should Care).”
Text search is common in the technological world. Visual search capabilities make it possible for a user to search the web using a camera. Shopping and learning became simpler and faster.
Let’s say you see a friend’s dress you like, but don’t know its brand or where to purchase. Upload a pic into a visual search app and find more information about brand, pricing, and where to purchase. Another scenario might be taking a hike and seeing a particular flora or fauna that you can’t identify. A quick photo search will yield you all the taxonomy information you could want.
The greatest interest in visual search comes from 18 to 34-year-olds, who are 30% more likely to be users of this technology. There is some additional interest in those 55+ (41%). This represents an opportunity for this technology to be embraced across age groups as it becomes more mainstream.
