We talk frequently about machine learning assuming everyone understands what it is and how it functions to make content findable. However as technology continues to evolve, functions and features change with it. The Pew Research Center brought this subject to our attention in their article, “What is machine learning, and how does it work?

In this digital world, it’s not always possible for humans to analyze the vast amount of information that needs to be processed. Machine learning algorithms find and apply patterns in data. Organizations are increasingly making use of machine learning to identify patterns across thousands or even millions of data points. These techniques automate tasks that researchers, scientists, analysts and data processors have done by hand for years.

Machine learning has gone from the the realm of a relatively small number of data scientists to the mainstream of analysis and business. Machine learning algorithms are responsible for the vast majority of the artificial intelligence advancements and applications you hear about.
