Artificial intelligence (AI) has many proven benefits across various industries and in our lives, both professional and personal. A recent study revealed that AI could help to diagnose Alzheimer’s faster and improve patient prognosis. Medical Xpress brought this interesting topic to our attention in their article, “Artificial intelligence could speed up and improve Alzheimer’s diagnosis.”
The new research examines how the routine use of AI in healthcare could help to relieve the time and economic impact that common neurodegenerative diseases, such as Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s, put on the UK’s National Health Service (NHS). The number of people living with Alzheimer’s alone is predicted to reach 115 million by 2050, posing a real challenge for all health systems.
Machine learning algorithms can be trained to recognize changes caused by diseases in medical images, patient movement information, speech recordings or video footage showing patient behavior. This application of AI can be a valuable diagnostic aid ahead of the diagnosis.
