Data governance forms the basis for company-wide data management and makes the efficient use of trustworthy data possible. The efficient management of data is an important task that requires centralized control mechanisms. This interesting information came to us from IT Wire in their article, “For the best digital transformation you need data governance, Teradata says.”
Some might look at this definition and think they have achieved data governance because their data is housed and secured in a trusted public cloud with logins restricted to key staff and because they have a separation between their production and development environments. However, while essential, those items are not data governance.
Data governance programs always affect the strategic, tactical and operational levels in enterprises. In order to efficiently organize and use data in the context of the company and in coordination with other data projects, data governance programs must be treated as an ongoing, iterative process.
