Healthcare Technology To Go

Artificial intelligence and other emerging technologies continue to show their worth in healthcare applications. Wearable technologies have largely been data reporting, not interpretation. This new shift in medical applications is about to change that. This interesting information came to us from The Conversation in their article, “Listening to asthma and COPD: An AI-powered wearable could monitor respiratory health.”

Wearable technologies have been applied for remote monitoring of asthma and COPD. Most of these devices have built-in microphones to collect audible clinical symptoms, such as coughs, from patients. This is a limited path of data collection. Efficient and intelligent algorithms are required for health wearables to meaningfully interpret data as soon as it’s fed into the system. Recent advances in AI has rapidly changed many fields of medical diagnosis and therapy monitoring.

With advances in wearable monitoring technology, patients can be empowered to take charge of their own health in new ways.

Technology continues to play more of a role in health care. Helping practitioners and users to understand is key. Explainable AI allows users to comprehend and trust the results and output created by machine learning algorithms. Why is this important? Because explainability becomes critical when the results can have an impact on data security or safety.
