In many fields including finance, ontologies provide a common vocabulary and a shared understanding of concepts across different data sources or systems. They help integrate and harmonize heterogeneous data by mapping different data structures to a common framework. This enables AI systems to access and combine information from diverse sources, enhancing data interoperability.

Overall, ontologies play a pivotal role in AI by providing a structured and formal representation of knowledge, facilitating semantic understanding, supporting reasoning and inference, enabling data integration, and promoting knowledge sharing and reuse.
